Casa do Lagar is a converted watermill with its own swimming pool. It has five bedrooms that can comfortably accommodate ten people. Here the guests can feel as if they have escaped from it all!
The large country kitchen with dining table, gas oven, fridge/freezer with ice dispenser, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker etc. There is a high chair for children. For the cooler months, the mill has a central heating system that is fired by the wood burner in the lounge. This heats the property very quickly. Wood is included in the rental charge. Hot water is provided by an environmentally-friendly, heat pump system. This system uses heat exchangers to convert atmospheric heat into hot water. It can work when the temperatures outside are very low, so you should never be without hot water. There is a heating element which will give the system a boost and provide hot water quickly if the supply should run out.
There is a TV (providing local channels) and DVD player in the main living room and there are some DVDs provided on the shelf by the TV. There is also a small TV and DVD player in the twin bedroom. The mill does not have a landline telephone, but there is good mobile reception. There is free internet access in Ponte de Lima.
Linen and towels (including some beach towels) are provided and there is a weekly maid service and a gardener. In addition, we can arrange for a daily maid and breakfast service at modest additional cost.
Outside, to the rear of the mill is a patio and barbecue area, with a table and seating. This patio is right next to the water and is a very relaxing place to enjoy a drink. At the front of the property is a parking area, and beyond that an enclosed garden with swimming pool. Sun loungers and parasols are available to guests.
The mill is a wonderful place for holidays with children. With families in mind, we provide a high chair, cot, travel cot, bunk beds and a push chair. There are stair gates top and bottom inside. Outside in the garden is a slide.
The pool is in a fenced garden slightly away from the house itself. However, parents should be aware that there is a stream running alongside the mill and, as with any property near water, young children will require supervision. Parents should be aware that the water level in the stream bordering the mill changes from day to day, and sometimes during the day, depending on which fields are being irrigated.
