Casa do Lagar is in the Minho region of Northern Portugal, about 45 minutes' drive north of Porto airport and just five minutes' drive from lovely Ponte de Lima. It is perfectly situated for exploring the Minho region, lying between the mountains and the sea.
A half hour drive east takes you to the coast and wide, sandy beaches and a half hour west are beautiful mountains with great walking in the Peneda-Geres National Park. To the north is the Spanish border, with fortified towns on both sides of the river Minho and a short drive south takes you to historic towns such as Guimaraes and Barcelos.
Guests can enjoy some lovely walks from the mill in the surrounding hills but all the local amenities are not far away. There is a small local shop 20 minutes' walk from the property, otherwise Ponte de Lima provides shops, supermarkets, banks, cafes and restaurants. Ponte de Lima is the oldest town in Portugal and has a very pretty setting with pedestrian areas, gardens, open air swimming pool, a town square with cafes, ancient bridge over the river, river beaches, fortnightly market.
The price includes a local guide to meet you, show you where things are in the town and take you to the mill if you wish. Alternatively we will send you directions when you book.

All the major operators have desks at Porto and Lisbon airports. We would recommend the following car hiring operator should you require this type of service.
We tend to use Budget, booking via www.carjet.co.uk and have found them to offer good value and excellent service. Especially good for families, they charge a one-off fee for providing child and infant seats, rather than a daily additional charge.
